Ronald Mcdonald. He's a man with two eyes, a man in the sky, multi franchise, a mass enterprise. I would like to take this time to acknowledge the devastation i have witnessed due to effective focus. The words of many have been taught by few, and there is no substitute for such learning. When you have a grasp on the focus you wish to achieve, many little things become much more relevant. Take this time to acknowledge the devastation. I hope to be an inspiration to all you folk, a simple inspiration that is un-revoked. The negative becomes positive when you add more shit. That really only works in math, but its how we live. Take your eyes off the sky and put them back in your head. Take time to look around before the time says you're dead. I met a man with little control of himself, but feared and respected he had great heaps of wealth. So it made me feel I should be the same way, I lost all control.. and ended up getting paid. Cut throats and stole goods so i could feel good myself. Lost my control in pursuit of the wealth. Ronald Mcdonald you suck and your lame. Ronald Mcdonald ALWAYS gets paid.
dear problem girl: you have a little dilemma inside your head, it's only important behind your eyes. you want him to know how you care, don't make him decide because it's unfair. nobody deserves, we only believe. deciding and wanting is grounds for the grieves. it's a scenario that has come to control how you feel in the morning, feel in the night. what you do with your problem, allows you to predict your feelings for the next little while. until your next crack at love, your next little smile. problem girl, don't compromise. put to rest what it is, nobody will win. this i can absolutely promise. time will be wasted with problems that aren't even there. time will be wasted and no-one will care. don't try to find, concentrate on your day and bring ease to your mind. problem girl, this trouble will lead you to no end but unhappiness. the idea is not justify, but just to let fly. don't let your thoughts slide to the left or the right. all things will come to you in given time. no-body's created love, or a rift between you but the latter im sure would be a gift to you two. from: the problem.

The following is an excerpt from the commercially/critically masterful Dr. Dre album '2001'. Read carefully, the track title is 'Bitch Niggaz' and is introduced by Snoop Dogg with a cleverly ebonic message which when understood correctly is a very meaningful philosophy.
Snoop Dogg: Check it out Dogg; this game is a motherfuckin trip man Word on the streets Everybody always tryin to run up on me hollerin about word on the street is dis nigga said dis.. Man I don't give a FUCK about what that nigga said man! That's what's wrong with you niggaz, you niggaz is just like bitches Hoe-ass niggaz, talk too motherfuckin much (speak) Study your own, get your own -- yahmsayin? Be independent nigga - BEOTCH!
In this message, Snoop is communicating his frustration with overly-dramatic people. We've all seen it before, a bunch of people sitting around bashing someone picking apart there ways and personality. And based on the congregate findings we make judgments on this person because we feel we are intelligent enough to do so. This escalates out of control when someone in the room feels loyalty to the prosecuted and takes upon himself an obligation to 'warn' him how his rep is being tarnished. Snoop then explains how this type of 'drama' is an absolute waste of time and effort. And in the time participating you should have been 'studying your own' in hopes of 'getting your own', BLAZE Y'TRAIL HOMIE. I hope this message comes through clear, human drama is a complete waste of your life, and it all means nothing and lives only in the minds of the weak. correction, it lives in tha mental of them trick ass hoes. let them talk all they talk, concentrate on your progress towards something better."yahmsayin"
I enjoy this song so much every time I hear it. Ever since it first mystified me in my youth, I have caught a chill; like I'm on to something when it is heard. I thought, it's been long enough that I could get my thoughts out about it.
Pixies was a rock band based in Boston from the late eighty's 'til the early '90's, I would classify their sound as being quite unique no matter what era you grew up in. The band consists of four members; a rhythm guitarist/lead vocalist(Black Francis), a lead guitarist(Joey Santiago), a bassist/backup vocalist(Kim Deal), and a drummer(David Lovering). The song 'Where is my mind' was released as track 7 From the Pixies first album Surfer Rosa (1988). It is a well known classic amongst fans of the band, although some may argue there are better representations of the bands signature sound. The song was featured on the epic Fight Club (1998), and seriously complimented the films ending; which in turn catapulted this song into some; late, but deserving widespread admiration.
There is a basic Verse Chorus Verse structure to the song BUT, added elements very-much illuminate this structure. There is this sort of conclusion at the end of each chorus that allows for the next verse to really spill in.
There are three different chord patters during the song
Verse/Intro/OutroEmajor: C#minor G#major Amajor
Chorus: Emajor G#major Amajor Aminor
This is the 'outro' to each chorus I spoke of; I apologize for not being able to define it in the correct terminology. C#minor for two bars of two Bmajor for two bars of two
The solo is on a Bmajor chord that is played for 3 bars of 4.
The lyrical content leaves alot of room for interpretation; but, i have thought of it in mainly two different ways. When I first heard the song; given some of the tensions built on other work from this band; I put confidence in the assumption that he was speaking of 'going a little mad' while he is trying to find his mind. But, I soon realized he may likely be speaking of the physical location of his mind. In the first verse Frank speaks about breaking your head open by putting your feet in the air, your head on the ground and then spinning 'it'. He explains that your head will collapse, you'll look, and there will be nothing in it pertaining to the 'mind'. The chorus repeats 'where is my mind' three times and then finishes off with "way out in the water, see it swimming". I really can't find a meaning for that, I'm not sure if something is out in the water? or, if this line was just inspired by a random thought, or he is just saying like "way out in the waaater" it gives me a vibe like it was inspired from a beach tune of some sort. ie. wave of mutilation... whatever. The second verse goes:
I was swimmin' in the Caribbean Animals were hiding behind the rocks Except the little fish But they told me, he swears Tryin' to talk to me, coy koi.
This verse I believe to be un-related to the original content besides the thought process involved to achieve the lyric; but, it works. I think he was inspired by the end of the chorus to keep it flowing; on the grounds that songs about the location of the mind would turn into misunderstood seminars in them there headphones. The first half seems too much of a profound question to resolve to a memory of the Caribbean, that's all... But, how much further are you going to elaborate on the location of the mind without sounding a bit bonkers. It does provide a great question tho, where is it? an excellent use of songwriters craftsmanship as far as my assumptions about the content go.
Bingo. "That came from me snorkeling in the Caribbean and having this very small fish trying to chase me. I don't know why - I don't know too much about fish behavior." Frank Black / Select October 1997 But, do you really think he started with that thought in his head? who knows.
Finally the last verse is the first verse repeated once again which is really cool.
I did a cover of the song to go along with the article, i apologize there are no drums to be heard; and, I hope you enjoy my bedroom engineered take on it.
There are some differences in the song structure I just explained and what I had in memory when I recorded.
None the less I salute Pixies for the work they served the industry with. A re-definition of sorts.
Kim Deal formerly of 'Pixies' and Tanya Donelly of 'Throwing Muses' teamed up to release some material they had been working on 'here and there' I suppose. I discovered the album after listening to several pixies albums; listening, and listening, and listening, and than eventually needing more. And, I certainly found what I was looking for, this was "one of those albums". One that is; for a time, completely intoxicating. After the first few listens I hadn't even paid much attention to it, but during the day I started to think of the track 'Glorious' and found myself racing home to listen to it. Eventually after hefty amounts binging on it, I had to put it away due to my own conscious saying "you've got to broaden you're horizons"; "You've been listening to this long enough to forget about OTHER music". An epic album in indie/alternative/grunge/whatever rock that has so much to admire. And, if you haven't found anything to admire your first listen; Look out, because it creeps up out of nowhere. It isn't the technical ability that draws me to the breeders, not even close. But, these girls are amazing songwriters. Absolutely stunning song writers. The use of dissonance mashed with traditional and, some not-so traditional chord progressions. It seems as though it was all put together with such ease, but with a discipline I can't define. They find 'the spot' and they keep it long enough to chat about it. This is very much a work of art that at it's peak moments put you in an uncharted atmosphere. The feeling comes across so strong with these tracks, it will take you to dark places and then back to bright sunny days. Maybe it is that Kim was a woman of high high's and low low's. The deal sisters continue onwards after Pod too project a similarly raw sound that is none the less admirable. They are always very sincere and honest sounding yet, so playful. The production quality on the album is: raw, clean, and, powerful. It was engineered by Steve Albini, a man with some great experience under his belt. This album must have had a lot of people feeling negative towards it; it is nowhere near traditional. But, the ones who can relate to this dark yet playful sound will really understand where they were coming from. It makes me feel that this is for the outcasts to enjoy, not in the sense that you are outlandish for enjoying it. But instead, these girls are 'the breeders' of wonder. The ones that dream, and the ones who believe in more. But, don't forget that a dreamer on the wrong path will find dark places. Deep down inside when you're feeling jaded or on the outskirts; you'll hear Kim's beautiful rasp and you'll feel hope, wonder and, amazement. She did for me (the blue collar pot smoking intellectual-wannabe) what punk did for generations of youth with angst.
Music can be a misleading topic to discuss when looked on strictly from the eyes of a theoretical point of view. When theory is involved with the creation of music it must be dealt with appropriately. Music theory has undoubtedly spawned some of the greatest work of all time, but how much has been created without referring to the handbook? Artists may go many different paths, but few will walk without any theoretical structures. Even the creation of habit or 'I'm familiar with this sounding good' I regard as a 'personally developed theory'. It is quite the same in its formulation, just not as elaborate and structured as the general consensus for 'music theory'. So, in that sense you may be doing yourself a great injustice as a theory player using limited knowledge, but still relying. I've seldom in my life seen a musician who using only their musical vision creates marvelous music. In fact I haven't seen this. But, I do believe in it. This area of musical ability is where I believe the mystery of music lies, it is an intellectual area that only some have refined enough to use. But, it can be the most coveted skill of all musicians. If there were a perfect working version of this intellect, it would have the ability to directly translate feeling into sound with little technical ability or theoretical knowledge. With the pure talent of being in tune with ones ability, the theory becomes secondary and the thought dissipates. Ability does still matter in the sense that it has to be refined. But, it is very secondary and will come as you create inspired work. There are so many other ideas surrounding what music is rather than learning how our ancestors did it. People underestimate new comers when they have no expansive knowledge of how sounds work together. But, some of those people may have enough awareness that shows them; they don't need to know this to create. If the external manipulation of sound resembles what they hear in their head, then someone else is bound to enjoy it the same. Of course, this pursuit of theory-less musical training would be extremely discouraging and utterly lengthy, although it may bring into existence something the people of this world squirm about. Change. Today's general mindset would only allow very few; persistent, dedicated individuals to become what they desired, due to the amount of ridicule they would have to endure. Remember, our beliefs and traditions are very hard to change. You will become inspired and it will show you your vision.Your vision then becomes your theory. And your theory will breed your ability, once it has made dinner plans with the inspiration for your vision. But, you can't be mislead. Without content you enjoy to put forth you will experience emptiness. Take these words for all walks of life.
Your mental development will mirror back your theoretical knowledge and playing ability tenfold.
